Mr. McLendon was born May 8, 1915 in Pike County, Alabama, the eldest son of 9 children of John Washington McLendon and Chellie Estelle Henderson McLendon. A graduate of Midland City High School, Mr. McLendon served in the U.S. Navy as a member of the Seabees and Underwater Demolition teams during World War II.
